What does Hands-Free really mean?
Hands-free means you just can't hold your phone while driving. You can still use GPS and make calls using hands-free technology - but your phone must not be in your hand while driving.
Doesn't Florida already have a Hands-Free law?
Two existing statutes are specifically for texting and driving only, which is hard to enforce. Section 316.305 and Section 316.306, Florida Statutes, refer to texting and driving and using wireless devices in a handheld manner in school and work zones only.
Do other states have similar laws?
Yes, 31 other states currently have Hands-Free laws in place.
What are the stats on phones, driving, and crashes?
Drivers who text while driving are 23 times more likely to be involved in a crash or near-miss event.
You are four times more likely to be involved in a crash just by having a phone in your hand.

Does Hands-Free really make a difference?
Yes. In 12 of the first states to adopt a Hands-Free law, they saw traffic fatalities decrease by 16%. Ohio had a 25% drop in fatalities in the six months after the law was passed in April 2023.
